Healthy, Holistic, Homesteader Goals - January Wrap Up

Writer's picture: Lela MarieLela Marie

If you have read any of my previous blog posts or followed along on any of my journey so far, you would know that this girl is a healthy, holistic, homestead wannabe currently living in the suburbs of QLD Australia with the ultimate end goal of relocating to the country to live a more healthy, holistic, homestead lifestyle.

Unfortunately, I am not currently in the position just yet where I can up and move and relocate my life to my dream property, so in the meantime, I intend to turn my "waiting room" into my "classroom" and become as self-sufficient as possible while still living in my suburban rental property waiting for the opportunity to buy my own little slice of paradise.

I am currently learning all I can about health, wellbeing, nutrition, naturopathy, herbalism, permaculture, homesteading and self-sufficiency so that when the opportunity to buy myself a beautiful little piece of land finally does arise, I'll be ready for it instead of getting there and trying to learn on the fly as I go.

The more I can learn and teach myself now, the less overwhelming my life should be when I get there!

Some of the steps that I have taken toward my end goal of becoming a healthy, holistic, homesteader during the month of January 2025 are:

  • Bought lemon essential oil and peppermint essential oil which I intend to use when I make my own natural cleaning and beauty products.

  • Bought a new journal and began journalling.

  • Bought 12 x 500mL/ Pint canning jars to use with the new water bath canner that I purchased in December 2024.

  • Bought a vertical planter which I filled with various different herbs.

  • Bought 2 bags of diatomaceous earth - one to use in the garden and one bag because at the time of purchase, I didn't realise that it can actually be used as a dietary health supplement!

  • Made my own chocolate hazelnut spread (Blog post on its way!).

  • Made basil salt with basil from my own garden.

  • Dried thyme from my own garden.

  • Started a course in Organic Skincare and Haircare Formulation.

  • Made strawberry top vinegar (Blog post on its way!).

  • Started a permaculture design course.

  • Dried orange and lemon peels to make vitamin C powder (Blog post on its way!).

  • Bought a capsule pressing kit to make my own supplements (Blog post on its way!). .

  • Bought a dwarf mulberry, a dwarf mango, a dwarf coconut and a dwarf, low-chill apple tree.

  • Signed up on a subscription service with Farmer's Pick to have organic, farm fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables delivered to my home each week.

  • Made a delicious onion soup with an abundance of onions that I picked up for a bargain price so that I'll be prepared for dealing with abundance when I begin to grow my own food.

Be sure to let me know if you would like any further information on, or a blog post written about any of the abovementioned points and I will happily do a write up for you.

Alternatively, let me know if you have any goals that you're currently working on and what plans and dreams you have for your future. I'd love to hear from you! 😊
